Our family spent a lovely and relaxing eight nights at the Andaz Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo. We stayed eight nights in early September to celebrate my 40th birthday. We arrived via taxi and were warmly welcomed by the Andaz Papagayo staff. We were escorted into the beautiful open air lobby and offered a seat and green welcome juice.
The lobby has a snack station with ice water and coconut donuts. Its also a nice spot to catch a good view of the bay.
After check-in in the lobby we were given our room keys and a resort map and activity guide and introduced to another staff member who would be giving us a quick ride via golf cart to our room. Continue reading →
My family had a lovely seven night stay at the Andaz Mayakoba over New Year’s Eve 2018! Our driver dropped us off after a 40 minute drive from Cancun’s airport. We were greeted at the entrance by two Andaz representatives. One assigned to grab our bags and one to welcome us inside.
The entrance inside the main lobby of the Andaz Mayakoba is named The Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is designed to mimic a Mexican cenote’ with its large opening up top and the water feature below.
We were welcomed inside and invited to have a seat in The Sanctuary. Our Andaz Mayakoba checkin representative informed us we will do the check in seated and he would bring over a few mezcal welcome beverages for us to enjoy. Continue reading →
We walked to the Andaz Tokyo from the Shinbashi Station which took about 20 minutes. We asked directions at the police outstation directly outside Shinbashi station and they pointed to the very tall Toranomon Hills building and we pretty much didn’t lose sight of the building and found our way fairly easy. It was a sunny 70 degree (F) day for our first day in Tokyo!
We stayed 5 nights at the Andaz Maui over Thanksgiving and early December. Overall this is a great property! We really enjoyed our time here. I am writing this about a month after we checked out in January in Wisconsin and I wish I was at the Andaz right now!
The staff was generally very young and upbeat and willing to help in anyway possible. Every reasonable request was granted. They were full of smiles and always wanting to help or give advice. They were very proactive. Two specific examples were Experience Manager Dahvii and concierge Jill S! Dahvii not only showed us personally around the entire property (while our room was being prepared) but also was nice enough to tell us about some things going on around the island. There was a “white party” at another establishment and he was cool enough to give us his cell phone and offered us a spot on the party bus if we wanted to go! That is going above and beyond Davii so thank you. Also the concierge Jill was top notch. She gave us plenty of advice and book some activities for us but also offered her cell phone number in case we get lost around the island.
The hotel was only about 2-3 months old when we visited and everything was immaculate. The hard product was great and the location spectacular! You get amazing sunsets most nights and the hotel is in walking distance of many other attractions. We walked to the Shops of Wailea a few times and also walked to dinner at Monkeypod. The beaches were pristine and the pools (all 3+ of them were amazing). They also hosted a GM meet and greet one evening with free cocktails (a sort of alcoholic punch) in the lobby. We made sure to get 2-3 of these while available. The lobby and common areas are great. The workout facilities were great-plenty of machines and water and towels.
Our room was nice. Not very large but plenty for 2 people. The bathroom is very nice and the views are superb. Every room appears to have a lanai or balcony. The glass doors to the patio just about completely slide open to really open up the room to the outside. The only downside to that in our room was we were right off the lobby and there was little privacy. The TV can be completely tilted off the wall if you want to watch TV in bed. At first I thought it tilted slightly but it can be in fact pulled away from the wall. The shower only had an overhead or waterfall shower which I love but my spouse was disappointed as she would have to get her hair wet every time she showered. There was no tub in our room but I understand suites have a tub. I was not given a suite as a Diamond member nor did I push it when I saw our view. I also assumed they were operating close to capacity on/around Thanksgiving holiday.
Opportunities for improvement would include:
When we walked into the lobby to “check in” we were not greeted by anyone initially and kind of stood around waiting or wondering how to check in since there is no official front desk. We were not given leis at any point of our stay!! If this was my first time in Hawaii I may have been disappointed or if I was a female I may have been disappointed while seeing others given a lei. Not quite the welcome I had envisioned.
At lunch we were not given napkins with our meal.
A “local” family and friends were at the pool and let their kids totally take over the hot tub. The kids were in and out, playing, EATING, and even went in with their sandals on. A staff member should have said something. Im fine with kids messing around in the actual pool but not the one and only hot tub.
