Park Hyatt Mallorca
My family enjoyed five luxurious nights at the lovely Park Hyatt Mallorca located on the northeastern coast of the island. We picked up our rental car from the airport and after about 1 hour later (and many roundabouts) we arrived.
Pulling into the resort you can see the property set in between the base of some mountains in a pretty valley. The property is built with Mediterranean/Spanish style and flair. We arrived at the entrance and were greeted by the bellman who proactively grabbed our bags from the back of our SUV.
We were escorted into the reception area to checkin where we were greeted by a nice young woman who offered us a seat to complete the process. She confirmed our cash and points reservation and then upgraded us for $30/night to a room on the ground level with a bit more yard space as she thought that would be good for our son to play. She was also nice enough to include breakfast during our stay since we took the upgrade.
After checking in and getting our room keys we were escorted outside and given a ride in a golf cart to our room which was located higher up the resort. The resort has quite a bit of stairs and elevation. So from our reception to our room was over 100 steps when we decided to make the walk on occasion.
We were assigned room #85 which is a standard king room. This property has a limited number of suites and since I had no Hyatt status at the time we were not upgraded. However I did find the room to be plenty spacious for the three of us and the room was really quite comfortable and nice.
Our bellman escorted us in and put our bags away in the closet area and proceeded to show us around the room to get us acquainted with all the amenities. After a short tour from the bellman we were left to our own devices.
The room was fairly bright and airy with lots of natural light. The room featured a nice king bed with clean, crisp, white linens. There was a nice sitting area with a loveseat couch, table and chair in the corner of the room.
On the opposite corner was a nice sized desk with an iPad personalized with my name on the screen. From there guests can see the weather and pull up guest services to place orders and such.
Near the room entrance is a hutch in which the mini bar is housed on the bottom. There were also a coffee maker, some silverware and cups.
The closet was in the middle of the room and plenty large for our needs. There was also a nice large mirror opposite the closet. You could pass through the closet to get directly to the bathroom.
The bathroom was modern, clean and eye-pleasing.
Bathroom features included dual vanities, separate water closet and separate shower and tub.
I am a sucker for a rainfall shower head, which the Park Hyatt Mallorca offers along side the hand held shower wand.
Bottega Venata bath toiletries were provided which is typical for the Park Hyatt brand and are enjoyable.
Another neat feature is the TV built into the bathroom vanity mirror.
My wife and I loved sitting outside on our rooms patio during the early afternoons when our son was napping. I would run down to get a pitcher of sangria or margarita’s that we would polish off while enjoying each others company and getting some quiet adult time.
FULL ROOM WALKTHROUGH BELOW:
Just off our patio area is a decent grassy lawn area. Then just down from that is a larger lawn area with a water feature.
The property has lots of nice water features and amazing custom stone work throughout the property.
The Park Hyatt Mallorca features a decent kids club area for the youngsters. We stopped in twice during our stay but since our child is under four years old we had to accompany him. Since the 2018 World Cup was going on during our stay our son had fun kicking the soccer ball around the kids club and during our brief visits never encountered any other children there.
The woman that was staffing the kids club was very friendly and ended up making our son a custom balloon to take with him.
Directly adjacent to the resort is a park. The park has a nice playground for kids.
We took our son there one afternoon to play however bear in mind there is no shade and can get quite hot in Mallorca in the summer afternoon.
The park is a nice spot to have your child work out some energy.
Directly next to the kids club is the resort’s gym. The gym is fairly sized with all the needed equipment including several cardio machines and a bit of resistance equipment. We didn’t make use of the gym but did see some other guests regularly use it.
In the main plaza area the resort had a large TV set up for guests to watch the World Cup. This was quite popular during certain times of day and matches!!
The resort has a decent pool with an adjacent kids pool. I personally found the pool to be a bit too small and shallow.
We typically went to the pool early in the day before most people and in general it was empty however in the afternoon time it could get quite a bit busier. We never had any problem getting a sun lounger or getting a drink right away. In fact, the bar was so close and the area was so small I sometimes just went to the bar myself to get a drink . The water was warm too which was nice.
Our kid did enjoy the baby pool quite a bit. Although I thought he was too big for it, he was clearly more comfortable in it.
Food and Beverage
Food and beverage is the only area of the hotel that I think could be improved. There is nothing wrong with any of the food we had it just wasn’t extraordinary or memorable. We ate at Tapas restaurant a few times and found it to be solid.
Tapas offers a nice indoor or outdoor dining area
The staff is friendly and professional. We were greeted by our server promptly on all occasions and enjoyed our waitstaff.
The menu is fairly extensive and I really enjoy Spanish food so this was our best bet as we love to try and share different tapas .
I had to try the Iberian Ham here but to be honest I was sooo sick of ham at this point it was not that enjoyable.
In general we enjoyed the food at Tapas but the value to be poor when comparing the price to food.
We had dinner here on our last night as well and enjoyed a nice meal with local Mallorcan wine.
The standout was the Torrija dessert which we had on three different occasions.
The most central eating establishment is Cafe sa Placa near the lobby. Here you can get a decent lunch and stop in to get a coffee and treat.
My wife loved her salad but the next time we visited the salad was no longer available which was a disappointment.
I had the shrimp but wasn’t nearly as good as the shrimp we had in Madrid.
I think the best dining option at the Park Hyatt Mallorca is breakfast at Balearic.
We were happy to have breakfast every morning at Balearic. There was a nice amount of A la Carte options available in addition to the nice buffet. We generally tried one menu item then stopped at the buffet after if we were still hungry.
The staff here was also very nice. There was a nice hostess who also had a young son like us and loved playing with him in the mornings when we entered.
All the dishes we tried were quite good. No bad choices here.
Breakfast is included with paid stays it appeared but if you’re not a Hyatt Globalist and staying on points you might want to try to negotiate to have breakfast included. It really hit the spot for us.
We had the option of a straight points booking or a cash and points booking. The cash and points booking was not available early on but as I waited our nights opened up. Basically 50,000 Hyatt points saved us about $1600 which comes out to about 3 cents per Hyatt point, that’s a pretty good redemption!
The Park Hyatt Mallorca is a very luxurious property so $481/night rooms rates are not at all uncommon in the summer time. We were happy to use our Hyatt points to shave down our cost substantially!
Had we decided to pay cash for our stay our out of pocket price would have been $2398.51 for our five nights via Hyatt.com
Overall we loved the resort and would love to go back! The property is lovely, luxurious and elegant. Situated very close to the ocean with a free hourly shuttle to the beach! There is also a nearby golf course and neighboring health center which Park Hyatt guests have access to (tennis courts and indoor pool). If you are ever in Mallorca we would not hesitate to recommend the Park Hyatt Mallorca!
