Around Dubai

We had limited time in Dubai and thus time for just a few things.  It was HOT in Dubai, over 100 degrees each day which limited us to indoor or air conditioned activities.

One evening we decided to go to the Mall of Dubai.  Let me just tell you, do NOT go to this mall on a Friday night! It was packed!!! It didnt take my wife and long to decide that this isn’t a good idea. Especially trying to navigate our little guy in his stroller with a million people walking around.  We lasted a bout 30 minutes before we made it outside to the Dubai Fountain and a nice view of the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world during our visit).

We had to wait about 20 minutes as the prior fountain show had just ended.  Wow, it was so hot at like 7pm at night!  The 20 minutes seemed to take forever in the heat. Not to mention the other onlookers that either cut in front of your view or just sort of have no regard for your space.

Finally the fountain show started, this is basically a copy-cat attraction the the Bellagio’s fountain show in Las Vegas.  The show was choreographed to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and the water moved with the music for about 5 minutes before it was over.

Another day we decided to check out a different Mall (Mall of the Emirates).  This was near a marina and figured would be a nice location to hang out. However it was crazy hot out again and after about 1-2 hours of shopping we were done and went outside for about 10 minutes before we decided that an air conditioned boat ride might be a good idea!

We bought 2 tickets (the baby was free) and decided to go with the first class cabin. The boat ride was to take us down the coast and just past the Palm before turning back.

The tour boat

We were happy we paid a small premium for the first class because we were the only passengers! We had a nice quiet cabin for just the 3 of us so we could switch seats and see views out of both sides if we wanted.

It was a nice way to see parts of the city while relaxing in the air conditioning.  Our little guy seemed to enjoy looking out the window too!

Honestly we didnt do much else in Dubai during our day and a half as we had to be mindful of the baby, nap times, and the heat.   Had it just been my wife and I we may have tried to get reservations at the Burj Khalifa or Burj Al Arab but with the high prices for dinner and having the baby along it just didnt make sense especially after our pricey lunch in the Maldives
