Dining in London

Social Eating House

We had our concierge at the Radisson call for a reservation for us as opentable.com was showing full.  He was able to get us in for a 6:30pm table. We walked the 5-10 minutes or so from our hotel and we were there.

Social Eating House

They confirmed our reservation upon arrival and showed us to a large booth.  They did not however have any high chairs for the baby. Meaning baby would need to be held by us and on his best behavior which wasn’t on his agenda for the evening!  This reservation was too close to his bed time and wasn’t the relaxing evening we had hoped for.

We started with some tasty hand-crafted cocktails and some appetizers.  Service was good, not great.  I think one of the waitresses was a little put-off that my wife had to nurse our son to get him to cool down for a second but oh well.

Our appetizers and mains were both very good.

John Dory

The truffle mac and cheese

I think this is a great place to meet for drinks after work or for a date but not a place to bring kids of any age in my opinion. Overall everything was well done. The prices were quite high but manageable. Our meals were really well made and flavors were good. Overall this is a nice restaurant.

Portland was my favorite meal of the trip! Stellar service and food!!!  We stopped here for lunch one afternoon and had such a positive meal and experience.

Our servers were both super attentive yet professional. Everything flowed great and our meals were fabulous. Even our baby was in a great mood and loved the anchovies spread.  The female server took a special liking to our child and kept stopping by to play with him and even asked if she could take him to the kitchen to show him off which she did.  She genuinely cared for him and offered us tips for shopping around London and some things to do.

Cocktail menu

We both had some cocktails to start. The only negative thing I could say about the entire meal is that they didn’t give us enough actual drink in our glass, it was only half full.

Some sort of scrumptous anchovies spread

Portland Old Fashioned

Bread and butter

The days special-The amazing chops

Yum, my wifes dish-middle white pig

Wow just wow

Potatoes with caviar

We finished the meal with some dessert that hit the spot and ended the meal perfectly along with a coffee.

Raspberry dessert

Chocolate peanut butter dessert

I loved Portland. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a visit!!!

Pizza Express

Pizza Express is a chain that’s all over London. We actually got lost looking for a different place to eat and just decided to stop in and try it. Overall it was really good. We had some cheap good red wine and finished with some dessert. I never expected to spend over $100 at a pizza place for the both of us but that’s what our total came too.

Margarita pizza

Hawaiian pizza

They have a good variety of pizza and good service and atmosphere. They are located conveniently so your more than likely to bump into one in your travels about London.

Golden Union

My wife mentioned we should try Golden Union for some ‘old school’ British fish and chips. So we were able to eventually find it with the help of a cab.  I would say the place was nice and there was a decent selection of food/fish however they do sell out of stuff towards the end of the day sometimes.

Overall I would say this is just your average fish fry. Nothing special or memorable. It filled us up but you could get this anywhere in my opinion.

These were just a few of the eating establishments we decided to try while in London outside of our hotel(s).
