On Sunday evening we decided to take the ferry over to visit the Toronto Islands. There are three ferry’s to the islands. We decided to take the ferry to Center Island which is the “main” island. We paid $7 roundtrip per adult so $14 for both of us. We had about a 15-20 minute wait for the ferry to arrive back to the dock. We were stunned how many people came off the boat!!! Seemed like thousands! We found out that the islands were very crowded this weekend!!! The ride to the island is less than 10 minutes and very scenic. You get some great views of downtown Toronto.
Once on the island we walked around and took in the sights. There were some Caribbean concerts going on and just lots of families and friends enjoying each others company. There were lots of picnics all over the Island/park. Its a very diverse scene and its very nice to see so many different ethnicities come together and having a good time.
There were lots of small rides and eateries for people to enjoy which was nice. There was also some beaches on the back side of the island as well. The island was very well manicured and maintained too!!
Before heading back downtown we found a spot on the back end of the marina on Center Island. I wanted to get some decent shots of the Toronto Skyline from here during dusk. So we hung out there for 30-45 minutes before it got dark and the mosquitos came out. I got some decent shots I think.
When it was time to go back to the ferry the line was out of this world long!!!! It would have taken at least three trips for the boat to clear out all the people and it would have been over an hour. Instead there were a few small pontoon operators charging $10 per person for a quick ride back. Best $20 I spent in Toronto!!! There were seven other passengers on the pontoon and we were dropped off right downtown just a few blocks from our hotel. We would both say this is a must do. Center Island is really charming and a great place to take a break from the city!!!
