Wiamea Canyon

After checking out of the Sheraton Kauai we decided to drive over to Waimea Canyon since we were already on the southern side of the island the drive wouldn’t be as far.  Once you get to the base of the canyon you need to start to drive up some very hilly and winding roads.

On our way to Waimea Canyon

Twisty roads ahead

Getting higher

Once we got the first lookout we were amazed by the scenery.  I had never seen any pictures of Waimea Canyon so I was blown away by the size and beauty of it all. We stopped at most all the lookouts along the way up and also stopped along the way to get a map to get some information on some hiking trails in the area.

First views-beautiful

When you get to the the very end of the road at Wiamea Canyon you are at Kalalau lookout which is very amazing and scenic!!  The view points out to the ocean and the Napali coast line and down into the valley are unforgettable!!! Just don’t stand to close to the ledge!

Wiamea Canyon is a must do for any visitor of Kauai and next time we visit Kauai I want to stop here again and do some more actual hiking in the area.
